Junior Drum Set - What to Look For

There are many different models of junior drum sets for sale, and you should do a bit of research prior to just opting for the first one that you come across.

Traditionally a junior drum set were viewed to be a toy. This type of drum would be a single drum which could be placed on the floor or worn around the neck. Clearly any child would find it difficult to improve their drumming skills on such a drum. Typically, drums like these may have looked colourful and fun, but were soon discarded by most kids.

Today it is a very different picture. Junior drum sets for kids are not just toys. A kids drum set is an ideal starter drum kit which will help a child to learn to become a proper drummer if he or she wishes to do so.

A junior drum set today can be regarded as a minituare version of a professional set of drums. These are made with the same type of quality that they put into their full size drum sets and are real instruments and not toys.

For a child a small drum set is the initial step towards learning how to play the drums. Considering how professional a junior drum set can look, the cost of purchasing one can be relatively cheap. A good set of drums for children can be bought for under two hundred dollars.

There are two positive factors for buying a small junior drum set for your child. The first factor is that you do not have to shell our a lot of cash for the purchase. The second is that you will get to know if your child is serious about learning to play. So many teenagers pester their parents to buy them a set of drums, and after a few months they stop using them. Any parent who has purchased a costly present or item for a teenager will find such a situation very frustrating.

A juinior drum set will let you know early on how much your child wants to play the drums, if it is a passing phase, you will save yourself moneynot having to buy a bigger drum kit when your child is older.

Normally you can get 2 types of drum sets for juniors, a three piece or a five peace, drum sticks and cymbals are usually included with both sets. A 5 piece drum set offers a more professional looking kit than a 3 piece.

A big thing that you need to take into account before you buy a set is the how old your child is. We all know how quickly children grow. Buying the perfectly sized kids drum set for your child  is often a mistake made by many parents.. A junior drum set which is somewhat bigger than your child needs will ensure that your child can continue to use it as he or she grows.

The drum market has been geared towards boys for such a long time. These days there a lot of girls that also want to learn how to play drums. Manufacturers have latched onto this by making girls drum sets. You can now get a girls drum set which is pink in colour, but is a true percussion instrument to learn on.

Apart from the low cost of purchase, you will be providing your child with an opportunity to show an interest in music and develop their skills by getting them a junior drum set specifically designed for kids.

    Which Drum Kit is Best?

Knowing which drum kit is best can be a lot more confusing than you might realize, especially with such a wide range to choose from.

If you have been playing drums for a while, and are looking for a new set, then the odds are that you will know exactly what you need. For a beginner, trying to buy a set of drums can be a bit of a minefield.

The last thing that anyone who is new to playing the drums should do is to pay over the odds for a drum kit. I will give you a couple of reasons as to why you should avoid doing this.

Firstly, it may be your dream to become a good drummer at this moment in time, but will it still be a dream further down the line?. If your motivation towards playing drums disappears, then you will have wasted a lot of of your hard earned money.

Secondly, practicing the drums regularly is the only way that you are going to get better. Intially a cheaper set is going to help you practice just as well as a more costly set of drums. This is why you should look at buying a kit which falls in the mid range bracket, which will probably the best drum kit for you if you are a beginner.

Buying the cheapest model that you can find should also be avoided because you may have a problem adding to it as you improve. Most mid range drum sets have an option where you can upgrade individual features, and adding more things to them when you need to. This is very useful as you can improve your set of drums without having to buy a completely new set. So in the long run a cheap set will not be a drum kit best for you.

Another factor to think about is whether you want to buy an electronic drum kit, or buy an acoustic drum kit like a Pearl Drum Set.

Most people who get interested in learning to play drums, usually do so because there is something animalistic and primative about banging a drum, and usually go for an acoustic model.

The next thing to look at would be to look at some drum set reviews and where would be the best place to buy a drum kit. There are so many places from where you can get a set of drums. You could also buy a used set, if you know the type of model that you want. As long as the set was in good condition, everything should be fine.

Hopefully this information has provided you with enough information to make an informed decision about which drum kit is best for you.
